Opportunity Snapshot

Whether you are a recent graduate, or have been in the professional world for a year or two, Gate Gourmet's new Data Services Center offers a great career platform for growth at one of the leaders in airline services. We view this role as a great ground floor opportunity, and for our star performers, one that is a stepping stone to other careers within Gate Gourmet.

As a Data Administrator, you will join a team of Administrators, Analysts and Industrial Engineers who are charged with nothing less that redefining the way our multi-billion-dollar company does business.

Gate Gourmet is an airline catering and integrated supply chain management company. Every year, we produce approximately 195 million meals in 115 flight kitchens in 30 countries on five continents. You and the Data Services Center team will manage all of the data associated with these services -- data that represents a constantly changing picture of multiple menu cycles for multiple customers (airlines).

Your challenge as Administrator is to ensure that this data is accurate and up to date so that we can leverage this information to further refine and improve our services. In other words, you and the Data Services Center team could end up identifying changes that could save our company millions of dollars. Now that's a role with impact!

If you have:
  • High school diploma; Associate's or Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience.
  • Strong computer skills (including proficiency in MS Excel and Word) and comfort with learning new technologies.
  • An eye for detail and great organizational skills (we are a timeline driven team)
  • Team player mentality
. . .we invite you to consider joining a team that offers:
  • Business experience: Gate Gourmet is a billion-dollar, global company that tackles one of the most challenging logistical puzzles in the business world: airline catering. As a member of our team, you will learn how economic trends impact business, be exposed to businesses in countries around the world, and get hands-on with one of the most complex and sophisticated supply chain networks around.
  • Learning opportunity: as you can see, our industry is ripe with learning potential, and in addition to gaining general business experience, you will also gain tactical skills in data analysis, procurement and supply chain management, and learn SAP.
  • Dynamic environment: our industry can change just about every week, and that keeps our work fresh and challenging. The people who are happiest at Gate Gourmet thrive on change, and are able to adjust quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Team oriented setting: you'll join a team that will grow to about 40, and includes Analysts and Engineers. Our aim is to build a team of people who are driven to do a great job, but who are approachable and fun to work with.
  • Career development: from our President on down, Gate Gourmet is a data-driven organization, and your success in this role could set you up to pursue other opportunities in our organization.

More About Your Role

From your own experience, you probably know that there is a huge number and variety of foods and drinks served on airlines. One of your first learning curves will be to understand just how much effort goes into ensuring that variety.

Briefly -- here's how we do it: our end customers are the airlines, and we provide each one with a unique menu cycle. For every meal within this cycle, we have assigned points based on values for ingredients, preparation and delivery, and disposable and rotable (reusable) service items. These points tell us how many "man minutes" will be required to create the meal in any operating unit world wide.

And this is just one "slice" of the data you'll manage -- data that is critical for our planning and procurement teams. Your challenge is to receive changes and updates from our customers, input them into SAP, and ensure their accuracy. Learning SAP will be like learning a new language (and one that is valuable for your career!).

We'll start you off with a solid training program, including tours of our kitchen at Dulles International Airport, and our logistics facilities. Once you are up to speed, you will work closely with our Data Analysts and receive ongoing coaching and training.

To be a "star performer" in this role, you'll need to be:
  • A strong team player, and support our mission as a group.
  • Detail oriented, ensuring that the data you input is "clean" (accurate).
  • Proactively problem solve -- but know when to ask your Supervisor for help.
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage your work effectively.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you!
